SBL Round 10: Ohod lose to Al Fateh

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most important game in the last round took place in Medina between third ranked Ohod (8-2) and seventh ranked Al Fateh (5-5) on Friday night. Ohod was defeated by Al Fateh at home 76-86. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Ohod. Al Fateh dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Ohod's 32. Worth to mention a great performance of Nigerian-American guard Michael Efevberha (195-84, college: CSUN) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds. Algerian forward Mohamed Harat (198-90) contributed with 24 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Moroccan-Belgian center Khalid Boukichou (208-92) replied with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists for Ohod. Al Fateh have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Al Ansar. Ohod at the other side keeps the third position with two games lost. Al Fateh is looking forward to face league's leader Al Hilal in Riyadh in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Ohod will play on the road against Duba Club in Tabuk and is hoping to win this game.
An interesting game for Al Hilal (9-1) which played road game in Jeddah against 4th ranked Al Ittihad (7-3). Second ranked Al Hilal had an easy win 86-70. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Al Ittihad. American guard Antwan Scott (185-92, college: Colorado St.) had a triple-double by scoring 29 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Mohammed Alsuwailem chipped in 16 points, 17 rebounds and 5 blocks during the contest. Al Hilal's coach Stratos Koukoulekidis allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side Tunisian point guard Omar Abada (189-93) responded with 30 points and 5 rebounds. Al Hilal have an impressive five-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Al Nasr. Al Ittihad at the other side keeps the fourth place with three games lost. Al Hilal will play against Al Fateh (#6) in Al Hasa in the next round where they are favorite. Al Ittihad will play on the road against Abha and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Bottom-ranked Abha is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their tenth consecutive match to tenth ranked Al Nahda (2-8) 101-76 on Friday evening. Marwan Karkoura notched 28 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort. Al Nahda's coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 8 points and 10 assists by Mohaned Shabin did not help to save the game for Abha. Al Nahda maintains tenth position with 2-8 record. Newly promoted Abha still closes the standings with ten games lost. Al Nahda will meet higher ranked Al Wehda (#5) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Abha will play against Al Ittihad (#4) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Other games in round 10 were not that significant. Al Fateh smashed Al Nahda on the road 79-58. Al Wehda won against Al Ahly on its own court 81-63. Duba Club unfortunately lost to Al Salam in Al-Awamiyah 56-68. Al Nasr rolled over Al Ansar at home 98-71. Al Ittihad crushed Al Ansar on the opponent's court 73-39.
The most impressive performance of 10th round was 20 points and 20 rebounds by Maxie Esho of Al Ittihad.

Al Nahda - Al Fateh 58-79

No shocking result in a game when seventh ranked Al Fateh (5-5) crushed 10th ranked Al Nahda (2-8) in Al Khobar 79-58 on Monday. Al Fateh forced 20 Al Nahda turnovers. Algerian forward Mohamed Harat (198-90) notched a double-double by scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and Nigerian-American guard Michael Efevberha (195-84, college: CSUN) supported him with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Al Fateh's coach felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds by American center Malik Wineglass (203-93, college: Harris-Stowe St.) did not help to save the game for Al Nahda. Abdulmajeed Barnawi added 13 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Al Fateh have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Al Ansar. Al Nahda lost eighth consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with eight games lost. Al Fateh will meet at home league's leader Al Hilal in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Al Nahda will play against Al Wehda (#5) in Mecca and hope to secure a win.

Al Wehda looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Al Ahly's players. American-Bahrain Wayne Chism (206-87, college: Tennessee) notched a double-double by scoring 23 points, 19 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the effort and the former international center Mohammed AlMarwani (206-89) supported him with 16 points and 5 assists. Four Al Wehda players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds by American forward Steve Taylor Jr (206-93, college: Toledo) did not help to save the game for Al Ahly. The former international Ali Shubayli (190-96) added 16 points and 11 rebounds for lost side. Al Wehda moved-up to fifth place. Al Ahly lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with six games lost. They share it with Al Salam. Al Wehda will meet at home Al Nahda (#10) in the next round where they are favorite. Rather predictable result when ninth ranked Al Salam (4-6) won against 11th ranked Duba Club (1-9) in Al-Awamiyah 68-56 on Friday. American forward Nick Stover (198-93, college: USA) notched 28 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the effort and Algerian center Touhami Ghezzoul (209-87, college: N.Dakota St.) supported him with 12 points and 9 rebounds. Stover is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds by Ahmed Aldosoei did not help to save the game for Duba Club. Jonathan Dojbo added 24 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Al Salam moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Al Ahly. Duba Club lost third consecutive game. Duba Club at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the eleventh position with nine games lost. Al Salam will meet higher ranked Al Ansar (#7) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Duba Club will play against Ohod (#3) and hope to win that game.

Al Nasr outrebounded Al Ansar 42-28 including 34 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American power forward Chris Johnson (210-85, college: LSU) notched a double-double by scoring 28 points, 19 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and the former international guard Khalid Abdel-Gabar (188-90, college: Windsor) supported him with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Even a double-double of 21 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals by Jordanian guard Sami Bzai (190-94, college: SE Oklahoma) did not help to save the game for Al Ansar. Forward Ayman Belal added 19 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Five Al Nasr and four Al Ansar players scored in double figures. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Al Hilal. Loser Al Ansar dropped to the sixth place with five games lost. They share the position with Al Fateh. Al Nasr's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Riyadh to the arena Al Hilal.
